This is the first primary school to be built in the Amesbury area in more than ten years. The school was very much needed due to the increasing number of houses that have been built in and around the area, with the existing primary schools being at full capacity.
The school was constructed over two phases, phase one was ready for the opening in September 2019 creating a school for 315 pupils
Constructing a new school generated jobs within the local area
A BREEAM Very Good building, reducing footprint and energy bills
High specification teaching spaces for children in a new housing estate with conservation areas and sports pitch
A public playground outside of the school grounds which is always accessible.
Challenges and Solutions
Two key subcontractors went into liquidation during the project. Open communication with the customer and active collaboration from the new subcontractors enabled us to keep the effects to the programme to a minimum.
There was a historic graveyard within the grounds of the site and a skeleton was found. An archaeological watching brief was carried out during the excavation phase of the project. This meant careful management of our subcontractors to ensure a smooth process.
There was a change to the flooring which caused an acoustic reverberation issue. To overcome this acoustic rafts were installed but as the sprinkler system, lighting and radiant panels were installed this meant heavy redesign at late stages of the project.
